Full, Associate or Probationary Membership in the Rockville Volunteer Fire Department shall be available to any person legally residing in the United States of America, eighteen (18) years of age or older.

Junior Membership in the Rockville Volunteer Fire Department shall be available to any person legally residing in the United States of America sixteen (16) years of age not to exceed eighteen (18) years of age, with parental permission, who resides in Montgomery County, Maryland. Junior Membership is a special sub-category of Probationary Membership. Junior Members enrolled in MCPS grades 11-12 are eligible to participate in the Montgomery County High School Fire Science Program.

Standby Duty

RVFD volunteer personnel are organized into a minimum of six weeknight duty shifts. Each shift is officially known by its respectively assigned night of the week (i.e., Sunday through Friday).  In addition to the weeknight shifts, RVFD volunteer personnel are organized into 8 Saturday night shifts who serve on a rotating basis.

a.  Weeknight Shifts – Standby duty hours are 1700 hours to 0700 hours Sunday through Friday. Members are considered late after 1900 hours. 

b.  Saturday Night Shifts – Standby duty hours are 1700 hours Saturday until 0700 hours Sunday. Members are considered late after 1700 hours.

c.  Members of the Monday through Friday duty shifts standing duty on their assigned Saturday night shift are excused from duty on the weeknight shift prior to their assigned Saturday duty shift.

d.  Members who wish to leave prior to 0700 hours must coordinate their departure time with their Shift Officer prior to 2100 hours. 

e.  Any member unable to perform the overnight standby on their duty night must apply to the Standby Committee for a modified schedule.  The member must provide specific hardship particulars that do not permit overnight participation.

f.    Junior members shall meet all requirements of the standby system with the exception of being released from duty at 2300 hours on school nights.

Human Relations
SCBA/PPE
Emergency Medical Technician - Basic (EMT-B)
